Paedophile ‘shot dead by hitmen working for abuse victim’s father’
Italian police believe murder was revenge for teenage victim who committed suicide
Police in Italy believe that the gunmen who shot a convicted paedophile dead last month were hired by the family of a teenage abuse victim driven to suicide.
In July last year, 45-year-old Giuseppe Matarazzo was walking down a street near his home in Frasso Telesino, when he was shot multiple times from a parked car.
The disgraced former priest had been released from prison weeks earlier, after serving an eleven-year sentence for sexually abusing two girls.
One of the victims, a 15-year-old girl, later hanged herself from a tree near her home due to her “shame”, Reppublica reports.
Police in the province of Benevento, where the killing took place have arrested Giuseppe Massaro, 55, and 30-year-old Generoso Nasta, after tracking down the vehicle used in the assassination.
In a statement, the public prosecutor’s office said it was their belief that the murder was a paid hit, arranged “within the girl’s family”. The teenager’s father is reportedly under investigation.
A probe into the finances of the suspects indicates that they received a payment of several thousand euros before the killing, says Inter Napoli. Both men deny any role in Matarazzo’s death.
