Arsenal to miss out on Brazilian playmaker Luiz Gustavo

Wolfsburg star dismisses rumours of a move to either Arsenal or Manchester United

Brazilian playmaker Luiz Gustavo has dismissed rumours linking him with a January move to the Premier League. According to the Daily Star the 27-year-old Wolfsburg ace has rubbished reports linking him with Arsenal and Manchester United. The Gunners in particular were said to be on his tail with manager Arsene Wenger reportedly preparing a £27.5m bid for the former 1899 Hoffenheim star. And with suggestions that Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is also circling, Gustavo has taken it upon himself to set the record straight. Talking to the German tabloid Bild, he blasted: "I am very happy, Wolfsburg is a great club to play for and I like living in Germany and the German mentality. I feel my future is here and I am able to imagine playing on for many years.”

Meanwhile the football blog caughtoffside reports that former Arsenal failure Gervinho has signed a contract extension with Roma. The error-prone Ivorian winger gave Gooners plenty of grief during his two seasons at the Emirates before moving to Italy last year in an £8m deal. Scoring nine times in 33 league games, Gervinho has penned a new deal that will keep him at Roma until 2018, allowing Arsenal fans to sleep easy in their beds for four more years.

Elsewhere and Talksport report that Jose Mourinho has confirmed Chelsea are in negotiations with Eden Hazard about a contract extension with a new £200,000-a-week deal said to be on the table. The Blues’ Belgian hitman scored 14 times last season and was named the PFA Young Player of the Year but that didn’t prevent rumours circulating in the summer that he could head to either Paris Saint-Germain or Real Madrid. But the 23-year-old is a Chelsea favourite and Mourinho has revealed the club wants him to stay at the Bridge. "Eden Hazard means a lot to us because he's a fantastic player. We have big hopes he will become one of the best," said Mourinho. "It's true that Chelsea is trying to have an agreement for a longer contract. He wants to stay for more years.”

Finally Aston Villa have announced that Alan Hutton has signed a new deal that will tie him to the club until 2017. Their official website carried news of the extension and the 29-year-old defender’s delight at the agreement. "I kept my head down, worked hard, came in every day and it's paid off,” declared the Scot. “Now I just want to go on and take this opportunity given me by the manager. We've made a really strong start to the season and we want to continue in the same vein.”
