Arsenal are said to be the “shock” favourites to sign Edinson Cavani according to the Daily Star. In recent months Liverpool and Manchester United have been linked to the £55m-rated star but the Gunners are now the “bookies favourite to land the Uruguayan” next year. Currently with Paris Saint-Germain, Cavani is said to be upset that he hasn’t been given more game time with the French champions, instead being relegated to a secondary role supporting Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic. As a result, the Star claims that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is lining up a big money bid as he looks to sign a striker who doesn’t blaze the ball over the bar like Danny Welbeck. According to Bookmaker Paddy Power Arsenal are the favourites to land the 27-year-old ahead of Liverpool, United and Real Madrid.

Still with Arsenal and the Daily Mail claims that the Gunners could “reignite interest” in Real Madrid keeper Iker Casillas in January’s transfer window. With current Arsenal keeper Wojciech Szczesny under increasing pressure following a shaky start to the season, the Mail says that Wenger is likely to make a move for Casillas in the New Year. Taking French paper Le10sport as its source, the Mail adds that Arsenal could face competition for the Bernabeu icon from Monaco.

According to tribalfootball.com, Arsenal and north London neighbours Tottenham are both on alert after Patrick Herrmann let it be known he’s finding life frustrating at Borussia Monchengladbach. New Gladbach coach Lucien Favre doesn’t appear to have much faith in the defender and as a result Herrmann is being tailed by the two Premier League clubs as well as Inter Milan. German paper Bild says that Herrmann is “discussing with his advisors” the prospect of demanding a move in the New Year.

Finally caughtoffside reports that Liverpool haven’t given up the ghost on Swansea City striker Wilfried Bony and are likely to table an offer in January. The 25 year old Ivory Coast international was linked to several clubs over the summer – including Liverpool – and manager Brendan Rodgers is said to still be keen on the £19m-rated striker.
