Netflix series The Crown claimed the Emmys throne last night with seven major awards, including best lead actress in a drama series for Olivia Colman’s portrayal of Queen Elizabeth.
The Hollywood awards ceremony was “dominated from the far side of the Atlantic”, with most of the Crown gongs “accepted by a cast and crew holed up in a hotel in London”, said The Times.

Moses Ingram, Anya Taylor-Joy and Marielle Heller were named winners of the Outstanding Limited Or Anthology Series Award for The Queen’s Gambit, another Netflix hit. The series “catapulted Taylor-Joy to stardom” for her performance as chess prodigy Beth Harmon, said Deadline.
Juno Temple inspects an Emmy awarded to co-star Jason Sudeikis, who won best actor in a comedy and best comedy series for Ted Lasso, the Apple TV show that “became a word-of-mouth hit in the months following its launch last August”, said the BBC.
Kate Winslet was in LA in person to pick up the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie. Variety noted that it was Winslet’s first Emmys win “in over ten years; she last won for 2011’s Mildred Pierce”.
Drag Race stars Michelle Visage, RuPaul, Gottmik and Symone on the red carpet in LA. While the ceremony was slapped with an #Emmyssowhite hashtag, it was at least a “night of ru-bilation for RuPaul”, said CNN, as the TV personality “made Emmy history by becoming the most-awarded person of colour in the show’s history with 11 wins”.
Pose star Billy Porter wore wings to the awards, but his bid to win best actor in a drama series failed to take off, with the gong going to The Crown’s Josh O’Connor.
