MG5 EV review: what the car critics say
The electric estate car has been given a facelift, with a sharper look and up-to-date technology
The MG5 EV is pretty much the only electric estate on sale, said DrivingElectric.com. Thanks to a facelift in 2022, it now looks sharper – and with a good real-world range of about 200 miles, extensive equipment, a seven-year warranty and up-to-date technology, all at an “excellent” price, it’s hard not to recommend. Every MG5 has a 57.4kWh battery to power a 154bhp electric motor, plus 87kW rapid-charging capability.
There are just two versions on offer: SE and Trophy, with official ranges of 250 and 235 miles respectively, said The Daily Telegraph. Both are fun to drive and have “vehicle to load” capability: they can power other devices or feed electricity back into the home. The chassis is nicely judged, steering is direct, and traction impressive. The MG5 can feel sporty, capable of 0-62mph in 7.3 seconds, and with a top speed of 115mph.
The cabin has been overhauled, with a fresh dashboard and a new touchscreen infotainment system, said Auto Express. It’s roomy, with generous legroom for rear passengers. Headroom is a bit tighter, especially up front, but the high driving position means visibility is good. With 479 litres, the boot is comparable with SUVs such as the Kia Niro EV (475 litres). MG matches Kia’s seven-year or 80,000 mile warranty too. Price: from £30,940.
