While most carmakers are moving away from coupés in favour of crossovers and electrics, BMW is keeping the faith – and the 2 Series Coupé is dressed to impress, said Top Gear. It feels very much like a 4 Series, which is no surprise as it shares the same engine, transmission and suspension, just with a shorter wheelbase. There are four models to choose – the 4WD M240i and three rear-drive options: 220i, 230i and 220d.
The entry-level 220i has a 181bhp 2.0-litre petrol engine with strong enough acceleration (0-62mph in 7.5secs), What Car? said. At the top of the range, the M240i has a 369bhp 3.0-litre petrol engine and four-wheel drive providing explosive acceleration (0-62mph in just 4.3secs). All versions come with an eight-speed automatic gearbox as standard, and the cornering is good, with well-balanced grip levels.
Nearly identical to the one in the 4 Series, the dash has BMW’s brilliant touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and built-in satnav, said Auto Express. The standard M Sport body kit has 18-inch alloys, adaptive LED headlights and heated front sport seats. There are two more seats in the back, though most adults will have to slouch to fit in them, and there’s also a decent-sized 390-litre boot. UK price: from £34,980.
