Today’s back pages: Moura the same! Spurs set up ‘full English’ final against Liverpool

A round up of the sport headlines from UK newspapers on 9 May

A day after Liverpool’s miraculous victory against Barcelona it was Tottenham’s turn to mount a dramatic fight back in order to reach the 2019 Uefa Champions League final.

In last week’s semi-final first leg Spurs lost 1-0 to Ajax, and last night in Amsterdam they were 3-0 down on aggregate at the half-time interval. But up stepped Brazilian forward Lucas Moura to write his name into Tottenham folklore.

The former PSG star hit a second-half hat-trick - including an injury-time winner - as Spurs came back to secure a 3-2 victory on the night.

With the tie level 3-3 on aggregate it meant that Spurs progressed to the final on the away goals rule. They will now play Liverpool in Madrid.

‘Moura the same’

After Liverpool beat Barcelona 4-0 Tottenham and Moura grabbed the headlines with a fine performance against Ajax.

“Anything you can do...” is how The Guardian reports the Spurs victory in Amsterdam while the Daily Express and the Daily Mail say it’s “Moura the same” as the Champions League experienced a second successive night of drama.

Liverpool completed the “Miracle of Anfield” against Lionel Messi and Co, but The Daily Telegraph, Metro and the Daily Mirror say it was Moura’s miracle this time.

The Express adds that Spurs have produced “the greatest comeback since Tuesday night”.

The Independent reports that it’s a “new high” for English football and with the Premier League rivals now set to clash in the final next month the Daily Star front page says it will be a “Full English” in Madrid.
