Spurs plan double swoop 

The Sun reports that Tottenham are planning a last-gasp “hot splurge” ahead of tomorrow’s transfer deadline with moves for Paulo Dybala and Philippe Coutinho.

Spurs have gone deadline-day crazy, says the Daily Mirror, as they target a £65m-£70m deal for Juventus forward Dybala and a loan move for Barcelona playmaker Coutinho. The double swoop for the £85m pair is described as “remarkable” according to The Times.

With the Premier League transfer deadline closing tomorrow at 5pm the Daily Star adds that Spurs could also see Christian Eriksen leave the club for Manchester United. 

Rooney’s return

It was confirmed yesterday that former England captain Wayne Rooney will join Championship club Derby County as a player-coach in January.

Rooney is ready for a “grand return”, says the Independent, with the 33-year-old agreeing a switch from Major League Soccer side DC United. 

The Guardian reports that the ex-Manchester United forward is focused on promotion and his new role. But first and foremost he will be a player.

He said: “I feel I have a lot of quality I can bring to the squad so, first and foremost, I want to play and help the team. There were other options; clubs made offers and inquiries about me. But once I made the decision to come here, I wasn’t going to go back [on it].”
