What is on TV tonight? Who Is America?, Nadiya’s Family Favourites and Shawshank Redemption
The Week rounds up the best picks for this evening’s television
Sacha Baron Cohen is back to his old tricks, dressing up and duping high-profile politicians, in Who Is America? on Channel 4 at 10pm. Targets include Sarah Palin and Bernie Sanders, but the “piece de resistance” comes when he poses as an Israeli gun enthusiast urging Republicans to arm toddlers, says The New York Times. Disavowals and condemnations from some of his political subjects seem only to have boosted publicity for the show.
Meanwhile, two new series arrive tonight from a couple of television favourites. On BBC Two at 8pm, Great British Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussain hosts a new cooking show, Nadiya’s Family Favourites. And at 9pm on Channel 4, motorbike racer Guy Martin gets a lesson in Russian politics while joining a biker gang in Moscow in Our Guy in Russia, as part of a three-part series.
Tonight’s best film recommendation is The Shawshank Redemption on ITV4 at 10pm. Based on a Stephen King novella, the 1994 adaptation stars Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman as two convicts who form a close friendship while carrying out their gruelling sentences at Shawshank State Penitentiary. “A testament to the human spirit,” says Variety magazine.
