Video: is Floyd Mayweather training for a return to boxing?

Social media clips show the retired 50-0 fighter working hard in the gym

When Floyd Mayweather stopped Conor McGregor in the 10th round of the mega-money boxing bout in August he was adamant that the fight, his 50th win in a row, was going to be his last.

But today speculation is rife on social media that ‘Money’ Mayweather could be set for another return to the ring after he posted videos of his latest training regime.

Mayweather came out of retirement to face UFC star McGregor on 27 August in Las Vegas. After his victory he told the world it would be his last fight.

At the time, the Daily Mirror reported Mayweather saying: “This was my last fight ladies and gentleman. For sure, tonight was my last fight. I chose the right dance partner to dance with.”

There’s speculation of a Mayweather vs. McGregor part two, but although there’s been no official statement from the Money camp this hasn’t stopped boxing fans from having their say on the American’s future.

One fan simply replied with “51-0” while another said “he’s not retiring, I like it”. For one fan, though, the videos are just too confusing. Weasle wrote: “Lol, he’s not coming back. If I hear a Floyd vs Conor rematch, nothing will make sense anymore.”

Would a return to boxing be about the money? Judging by his huge career earnings, it’s unlikely Mayweather is short of cash.

CNN Money says that Mayweather is poised to “enter a new arena” – the billionaire athlete’s club – after earning a reported $300million (£227.9m) from his fight against McGregor. That’s on top of the $700m (£532m) he had already grossed from fight purses during his unbeaten career.

If he continues to post videos of his training sessions, the rumours of a Mayweather return won’t go away any time soon.
