Uefa Euro 2020 qualifying: group standings ahead of the October fixtures

Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England are in action

International football takes centre stage with qualifying matches taking place for the 2020 Uefa European Championships.

Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England are all in action as they look to maintain their push for qualification.

The Euro 2020 finals will be held across 12 countries next summer. Hampden Park in Glasgow, Scotland, and the Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland, will host matches in the last 16 and three group fixtures.

Wembley Stadium in London, England, hosts seven matches including both semi-finals and the Euro 2020 final on 12 July.

Here we look at the UK home nations’s fixtures and the latest group standings.

Group A: England

The Three Lions play the Czech Republic on Friday 11 October and against Bulgaria on Monday 14 October. Gareth Southgate’s side will qualify for the Euro 2020 finals if they win against the Czechs in Prague.

Group C: Northern Ireland

On Thursday 10 October Northern Ireland have a crunch clash away against the Netherlands in group C. Should Northern Ireland win they would go six points above the Dutch. Group C qualification can’t be confirmed until November’s round of fixtures.

Group E: Wales

Ryan Giggs’s Wales side currently sit fourth in group E. Wins against Slovakia on Thursday and Croatia on Sunday would boost their qualification chances but two losses could crush their dreams of playing in next year’s championships.

Group I: Scotland

Scotland play in Russia on Thursday and host San Marino on Sunday. Their chances of a top-two place are slim to none, but they are guaranteed a play-off place because of their results in the Nations League.
