The Best Fifa awards: Salah, Ronaldo and Modric on final shortlist

The star-studded event will take place in London on 24 September

Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah is set to go up against football legends Cristiano Ronaldo and Luka Modric after the final shortlist was revealed for The Best Fifa Men’s Player award.

The Egyptian scored 44 goals in his first season at Liverpool as well as scoring two for Egypt at the World Cup group stage.

Salah was in superb form as Liverpool reached the Champions League final, where they lost 3-1 to Real Madrid. He also won the PFA player of the year award for 2017-2018.

Before signing for Juventus this summer, Ronaldo won the Champions League with Real Madrid. He also starred for Portugal at the World Cup in Russia.

Meanwhile, Modric is another Real star who won the Champions League. He captained Croatia to the World Cup final and won the tournament’s golden ball and the Uefa player of the season award.

Two Olympique Lyon players – Ada Hegerberg and Dzsenifer Marozsan – are on the three-name shortlist for The Best Women’s Player award alongside Orlando Pride and Brazil star Marta.

The Best awards will be handed out at London’s Royal Festival Hall on 24 September.
