Olympic legend strikes twice on his first start in professional football
Jamaican sprint king Usain Bolt scored two goals on his first start for Australian side Central Coast Mariners and celebrated in customary fashion.
The 32-year-old, an eight-time Olympic gold medalist, is bidding to forge a career in professional football and is on trial with the A-League outfit.
In his second trial match for the Mariners Bolt’s brace has boosted his chances of becoming a pro footballer, says The Guardian. His second-half double against Macarthur South West United helped the Mariners secure a 4-0 victory in the friendly clash.

Bolt, who is on trail with the Mariners for an indefinite period, said after the match: “My first start and scoring two goals, it’s a good feeling. I’m happy I could come here and show the world I’m improving. I’m keen to be a Mariner, to play my best and get into the team.”
Scottish striker Ross McCormack, who is on loan from Aston Villa, praised his teammate. Quoted by the BBC, McCormack said: “The best thing about Usain Bolt is he’s so humble. He’s fitted in well with the lads. From my first day even to where he is now, the transformation is huge.”
In an interview with Fox Sports Bolt admitted that he still has areas of his game to work on. “I’ve tried to prove myself, I’ve tried to get better,” he said. “I think I’ve improved in every area. I think my touch is that little bit better; my vision needs to improve a little bit more.”
