Today’s front pages: local elections, London marathon and obesity warning
A round up of the headlines from UK newspapers on 29 April
Images from yesterday’s London marathon abound on this morning’s front pages, with many newspapers spotlighting British runner Hayley Carruthers’ dramatic crawl across the finish line after she stumbled just metres away from the end of the race.
The i newspaper warns of an electoral “drubbing” in store for the Conservatives in Thursday’s local elections, while The Guardian claims that “chaos” within the Home Office is to blame for mishandled immigration cases, including wrongly rejected applications and illegal detentions.
Meanwhile, the Mail leads on a sobering study which found that overweight Brits are 50% more likely to experience premature death - a heightened risk which the Daily Mirror terms the “fat danger zone”.
