Game of Thrones death toll reaches 150,966

A new video claims to show the demise of every living being in the show - but have some deaths slipped under the radar?

Season seven of Game of Thrones airs in a few weeks and to make sure everyone is up-to-date with all the comings and goings - particularly the goings - a new YouTube video has gathered together all the deaths so far – all 150,966 of them.

Fan Leon Andrew Razon's 21-minute montage even keeps track of the carnage with a "death counter" featured in the corner of the screen, notching up each peasant, king, direwolf and whitewalker.

Rebecca Hawkes in the Daily Telegraph says Razon's 150,966 total not only includes the "nameless extras (RIP Lannister soldier #12)", but animals, insects and, "at 11 minutes and 18 seconds in, this unfortunate pigeon".

However, she adds, while the video is "impressively comprehensive", a few stray deaths "may have slipped under the radar" - the two men who became filling for Arya's famous Frey Pie revenge dish are absent, although "technically speaking these deaths haven't been confirmed".

There's a "hell of a lot of bloodshed", agrees Tom Chapman on Movie Pilot, but the death toll shoots up in big action scenes such as the Battle of the Blackwater and the infamous Battle of the Bastards.

He encourages viewers to "marvel as nearly 2,000 of those poor Stark soldiers fall before our eyes at the Battle of Green Fork" and another 100,000 Freefolk at Hardhome.

Kwame Opam on Verge says watching "all this bloodletting can be thrilling and/or depressing", depending on whether you're still mourning the deaths of your favourite characters. But don't take this as a complete death toll for the entire series because "there's no way it's even close".

Westeros's entire population has been estimated at 40 million and  events such as the War of the Five Kings killed thousands over the course of several years, so think of "all the murders and beheadings we don't see on the show", says the critic.

With series seven and the so-called Great War about to begin, there'll be dragons and ice zombies and the death toll is only going to get higher.

"Just don't try to keep count."
