“It’s-a me, Mario!” Say ciao to Nintendo’s legendary Italian plumber as he is brought to life via the power of Lego bricks.

The two iconic brands have teamed up to create what could be one of the must-have toys of 2020: Lego Super Mario’s Adventures with Mario Starter Course.

Available for pre-order now and launching in August, kids (and big kids) will see the Nintendo character leave the digital sphere for a real-life world that is neither a video game nor a traditional Lego brick-based set.

Takashi Tezuka, executive officer and game producer of Nintendo, said: “Super Mario has continued to appear, always in a form adapted to the current hardware of the time.

“I am thankful that in this project with the Lego Group, Mario is jumping out of the digital world of game consoles and smart devices, and we are able to bring him into the world with a new, physical type of Mario play.”

About Lego Super Mario

The new product line features an interactive Lego Mario figure that collects coins in real-life game levels created with Lego bricks.

Lego’s Mario has LCD screens in his eyes, mouth and belly to display a wide variety of instant reactions to movement, colour and action bricks. Also included is a speaker that plays iconic sounds and music from the video game series.

Designed for kids aged six years and older, the Adventures with Mario Starter Course comes with 231 pieces and features seven action bricks for different interactions with the Lego Mario figure.

How to pre-order

The Lego Super Mario products will officially launch on 1 August, but UK customers can pre-order the Adventures with Mario Starter Course for £49.99 at lego.com.

A number of expansion packs - Piranha Plant Power Slide; Bowser’s Castle Boss Battle; and Monty Mole & Super Mushroom - will also be available when the range is released.
