Man City transfer news: Etihad braced for Silva raid

15 April

If Manchester City's problems weren't already grim enough, now The Sun says that Valencia might add to their misery with "a cheeky bid to bring David Silva back".

The 29-year-old spent four years with the Spanish club his £26m move to City in the summer 2010 and the La Liga outfit are apparently looking towards Villa to spearhead their challenge in next season's Champions League.

They had hoped to sign Juan Mata but The Sun says he'll be staying at Old Trafford, which has prompted Valencia to consider making a move for Silva. Whether it fails or succeeds is likely to depend on whether City table a bid for Wolfsburg's £35m-rated midfielder Kevin de Bruyne.

Meanwhile City will have to fight Chelsea for the right to sign West Ham left-back Aaron Cresswell. The Daily Mirror reports that Chelsea are targeting the Hammers defender because they fear Filipe Luis is considering a return to Atletico Madrid after just one season at Stamford Bridge.

The 25-year-old Cresswell arrived at Upton Park last summer in a £2m deal from Ipswich and though the London club see him as part of their future, a big money offer from either City or Chelsea could weaken their resolve to hang on to him.

Man City transfer news: Wilshere raid ruled out

10 April

Arsenal have no intention of selling Jack Wilshere to Manchester City. That was the unequivocal message from manager Arsene Wenger when asked about recent rumours linking the Arsenal midfielder to the Sky Blues.

As Talksport reports, the Gunners have lost a series of players to City over the years - Gael Clichy, Samir Nasri and Bacary Sagna – but Wenger appears determined to resist the Sky Blues' overtures.

"You can imagine my answer, we are not in a position anymore where we have to sell our best players," replied the Frenchman when asked about the possibility of selling Wilshere in the summer.

"We cannot make a headline from anything in a press conference from something which is not true."

The Daily Mail says the power balance may have shifted between the two clubs. "The Gunners are now ahead of City in the table and appear to be a club on the up, while the men from Manchester must rebuild," it says.

Man City prepare to pounce on Toby Alderweireld and Kevin de Bruyne

20 February

Manchester City are said to be eyeing a double swoop this summer for a brace of Belgians, while over in the red half of the city, United have reportedly snapped up a Belgian of their own. Meanwhile Arsenal look like making theirs a Martinez this summer.

• Premier League champions Manchester City are closing in on two Belgian stars, Atletico Madrid's Toby Alderweireld and Kevin de Bruyne of Wolfsburg. According to the Daily Express, the "Belgium duo have impressed City's board" and the Sky Blues will pounce in the summer.  Alderweireld is on loan at Southampton from Atletico Madrid and while the Saints have an option for a permanent transfer it's believed City will get their man provided they table a bid in excess of the £6.8m that the south coast club have agreed to pay the Spanish champions. As for De Bruyne, who left Chelsea in a permanent deal last summer, the Express claims City see him as an ideal replacement for Yaya Toure in the middle of the park. Apparently Manchester United "have also monitored De Bruyne this season" but City are favourites to sign the playmaker in June.

• The Evening Standard reports that PSV manager Phillip Cocu has resigned himself to the departure of Memphis Depay at the end of the season. The 21-year-old Dutch international was approached by Spurs in the summer but according to the Standard a £10m offer was knocked back by PSV. But with the Dutch international enhancing his reputation this season with 15 goals in 19 league starts, the club is bracing itself for offers in the summer. "At some point, it becomes clear that he is ready for the next step, and yes, I think he's going to leave PSV after this season," Cocu told reporters when asked about the player's future. As for a likely destination the Standard says that Newcastle and the two Manchester clubs have been linked with a move for the young hitman.

• Reports from Belgium suggest Manchester United have signed teenage star Indy Boonen on a three-year deal. Sky Sports say that the attacking midfielder "caught United's attention when he played in a friendly against them in April 2013". Since then the Red Devils have tracked the progress of Boonen, as have Manchester City, Arsenal and Feyenoord. But it seems United have won the race to sign Boonen and he has penned a deal with the Old Trafford club having just turned 16. "It's like in a dream," he is quoted as saying by Belgian newspaper HLN. "The training sessions are hard, but I don't feel the tiredness when I realise I have signed for Manchester United."
