Man Utd transfer window verdict: the end for Louis van Gaal?

Manchester United were in need of new blood in January and it is telling that the manager did not pick up the chequebook

With his job on the line and his team struggling badly, Louis van Gaal could have been forgiven for embarking on another foray into the transfer market, particularly with weaknesses apparent in key areas.

But United failed to bring anyone in apart from Adnan Januzaj, who was recalled from a disappointing loan spell in Germany. The most notable exit was that of Nick Powell, who left on loan to Hull, "a slight surprise seeing as he was brought on for Juan Mata at a crucial point in a Champions League group decider against Wolfsburg," according to ESPN.
