"The first thing that I want to do is apologise to the people who misunderstood my statements," said Griezmann as he signed the deal, referring to previous comments he's made that there was a six out of ten chance he could sign for United. "Maybe I expressed myself badly or someone wanted to make news where there wasn't any, but since I came (to Atletico) I have given my all for my club, my team-mates and my coaching staff, and I'm very happy to live one more season with all of you.
Meanwhile the Manchester Evening News reports other comments: those of Morata's agent, Juanma Lopez, who told Italian outlet Calciomercato that the Red Devils have indeed transmitted an offer to Real Madrid for the services of the Spanish striker.
"They [United] are a club with great glamour, a very interesting option," said Lopez. "I can say that their proposal is a very, very important one and now the decision rests with Real." Asked if he believed the European champions would acquiesce to United's bid, he replied: "I cannot say, we will see."
The Daily Star also carries news of United's offer to Real Madrid and claims that Morata has "agreed a four-year deal worth £220,000-a-week", and he is now anxiously waiting to hear if Real will allow him to leave for Old Trafford.
Finally, The Sun reports that today should see the i's dotted and the t's crossed on the deal between United and Benfica for Victor Lindelof. The £31m Swedish international centre back, who played for his country against Norway on Tuesday evening, is expected "to jet in to Manchester and complete his medical at Carrington", completing a saga that has been many months in the making.
