Man Utd transfer news: swoop planned for Celtic’s Moussa Dembele and Kieran Tierney
Scottish champions are determined to keep their star players
Manchester United are reportedly planning to double up when they swoop on Celtic, with Moussa Dembele and Kieran Tierney both in the club’s sights.
According to the Daily Express, the Scottish champions are “determined” not to sell either player, but with their early exit from the Champions League underlining the gulf in class between Scottish football and the rest of the European top-flight, the pair are allegedly ready to move up a level.
Not that they will come cheap - the Express claims it will cost the Red Devils a total of £50m to prise Dembele and Tierney from Parkhead.
Frontman Dembele, 21, was linked to a number of Premier League clubs last summer and has remained on Jose Mourinho’s radar, along with 20-year-old Tierney. With the United manager ready to move on Luke Shaw next year, there is a space at Old Trafford for a left back, and Tierney fits the bill.
Although Tierney signed a new contract on Monday, there is speculation that Celtic may just be looking to ensure they get maximum money from the Manchester club when they come calling.
According to the Daily Mirror, United had their scouts at Celtic on Tuesday night to see how Dembele and Tierney fared in their Champions League encounter with Bayern Munich.
Meanwhile, the Manchester Evening News reports that Mourinho wants Andreas Pereira back at Old Trafford in January.
The 21-year-old midfielder was loaned out to Valencia last summer, but the young playmaker has impressed so much in La Liga that Mourinho will bring him back to the club after Christmas to bolster the squad in the second half of the season.
