Man Utd transfer news: Jose Mourinho plots move for Chelsea’s David Luiz

United boss is ready to rescue the Brazilian from his ‘turmoil’ at Stamford Bridge

Today’s Daily Express has what can only be described as a bombshell claim. The paper reports that Jose Mourinho is “plotting a move to rescue David Luiz from his Chelsea turmoil”.

The defender has allegedly fallen out with Blues boss Antonio Conte after he was dropped two weeks ago and the Express understands that the Brazilian is “still angry at what he sees as a humiliation”.

Apparently Manchester United manager Mourinho is monitoring the situation closely and could swoop as early as January.

Elsewhere, Sweden’s impressive feat of qualifying for next year’s World Cup at Italy’s expense hasn’t gone unnoticed by Mourinho, reports Metro

The paper says that that the United boss watched midfielder Emil Forsberg during his country’s 1-0 win against Italy in the first leg of their World Cup play-off in Stockholm last Friday.

It’s believed that Mourinho has drawn up a short-list of playmakers ahead of January’s transfer window and the 26-year-old Forsberg is one of the names. Currently with German outfit Red Bull Leipzig, the attacking midfielder matches the profile of the sort of player Mourinho is after. An offer is expected to be tabled in January.

Asked about the rumours by German paper Bild, Forsberg said: “I also read that in the papers [but] my focus right now is on Red Bull.”

Finally, Italian outlet Calciomercato reports that Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has rubbished suggestions that Antoine Griezmann could move to Barcelona next summer, news that will put a spring in the step of United, who still harbour ambitions of signing the Frenchman.

Earlier in the week it was claimed that a deal had been agreed “in principle” between Barcelona and Atletico but Cerezo clarified the matter in conversation with El Partidazo on La Cope: “Griezmann is an Atletico player and I tell you I think he will be here for a long time, and you know that I do not lie to you.”
