After Barcelona's MSN are defeated, will Man City's fans be cheering 'De Bass Gun' now?

Following their display at the Etihad, Aguero, De Bruyne, Silva and Sterling deserve their own nickname

Manchester City overwhelmed Barcelona at the Etihad on Tuesday night with an vibrant attacking performance.

Sergio Aguero, Kevin de Bruyne, David Silva and Raheem Sterling cut through the Catalan side at will, while the visitors' much-vaunted attacking trio of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar hardly had a touch in the second half.

After seeing their side shut down the famous "MSN" strikeforce, City fans may want to consider a nickname for Pep Guardiola's first choice front four.

Sterling, Aguero and Silva could, of course, become the SAS - but after Sutton and Shearer in the 1990s, and more recently Suarez and Sturridge, the nickname is somewhat jaded and it seems unfair not to recognise the contribution of De Bruyne.

Incorporating the Belgian into the acronym offers various possibilities, with "De Bass" perhaps the most obvious solution. That would follow the trend of using the players' initials as the key.

As well as Barcelona's MSN, there is Real Madrid's BBC - Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo - and prior to the arrival of Neymar and Suarez at the Camp Nou, Barca enjoyed the power of MVP - Messi, David Villa and Pedro.

However, using the first few letters of a players name opens up other possibilities, as Goal.com's highlights-reel of strikeforce nicknames illustrates.

Bayern Munich threatened "Rob-bery", with Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery leading the attack, while in the 1980s, Napoli had the "Magica" trio of Diego Maradona, Bruno Giordano and Careca.

The Boca Juniors pairing of Martin Palermo and Rodrigo Palacio was known by the nickname "Pa".

This method could also offer City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan some recognition, as what strikeforce wouldn't benefit from having the word "Gun" in its soubriquet?

However, some might argue Silk De Stag Gun is a bit of a mouthful - but De Bass Gun has a certain ring to it.
