Great apes at the San Diego Zoo have become the first non-humans to receive a Covid-19 vaccine outside clinical trials. An orang-utan named Karen was given two doses of the vaccine. Karen had previously made medical history when she became the first ape in the world to receive open-heart surgery in 1994. Three other orang-utans and five bonobos at the zoo were also given the vaccines.
Road accident victim comes back to life
A man who had been declared dead by doctors recovered consciousness at his post-mortem. Shankar Shanmukh Gombi, 27, suffered serious head injuries in a motorcycle crash in Mahalingapur, India. In hospital his life support system was eventually switched off and he was sent for his post-mortem. However, a medic then noticed movements and on closer examination found that he was alive. His family said doctors had exercised “bad judgement”.
