Most U2 songs make Bono ‘cringe’

And other stories from the stranger side of life

Bono

U2 singer Bono has admitted he hates his band’s name, his singing voice and most of the tunes he has sung. The Irish rock star told the Awards Chatter podcast that he finds most of U2’s songs cringeworthy and switches the radio off when they are played because he does not like the sound of his own voice. “I do think U2 pushes out the boat on embarrassment,” he added.

Enormous potato to be investigated

The world’s largest spud is to undergo DNA testing to find out whether or not it’s a real potato. Ancient tubes could be drinking straws

Experts have claimed that ancient gold and silver tubes dating to about 5,500 years ago and unearthed in North Caucasus in Russia could be the world’s oldest surviving drinking straws. The eight thin-walled tubes were found in the largest of three compartments containing human remains, discovered during the excavation of a mound near Maykop. Experts said the items are drinking straws “designed for sipping a type of beverage that required filtration during consumption”.
