And other stories from the stranger side of life
A headteacher has renamed his Norfolk school Harry Kane Junior School for the World Cup, reported ITV. Gregory Hill, head of Howard Junior School in King’s Lynn, announced at the weekend that “from Monday onwards we’re going to be the Harry Kane Junior School”. He described Kane as an “excellent role model for students” and added that, if England wins the Qatar tournament, “we’re changing our name permanently to Harry Kane Junior School”.
Turtles are chattier than we thought
Turtles and tortoises are more communicative than previously thought, scientists have found. Some turtles in the study made “many different types of sounds” while others “wouldn’t stop chatting”, said Gabriel Jorgewich-Cohen, lead researcher and a PhD student at Zurich University. Other species, including tuatara reptiles, lungfish and caecilians, a worm-like amphibian, are able to produce “a range of clicks, croaks, crackles, chirps, purrs and grunts”, said The Times.
Man catches colossal goldfish
An angler has caught one of world’s largest goldfish, reported The Guardian. Andy Hackett landed a goldfish weighing more than 30kg (67 pounds, or five stone), while fishing at Bluewater Lakes in Champagne, France. “I knew it was a big fish when it took my bait and went off side to side and up and down with it,” he said. “It was brilliant to catch it but it was also sheer luck.” After posing for photos he released the fish back into the water.
