Patrick Mahomes leads Chiefs to a superb comeback win against the 49ers

NFL Super Bowl LIV Kansas City Chiefs 31 San Francisco 49ers 20

Yet again in this year’s NFL play-offs the Kansas City Chiefs had to fight back in order to secure the victory. And their latest comeback was the sweetest as they beat the San Francisco 49ers 31-20 to win Super Bowl LIV in Miami.

All the pre-match talk was about Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes going up against the 49ers’s mean defence.

After touchdowns from Kyle Juszczyk and Raheem Mostert, it looked as though it would be San Francisco’s night as they headed into the final quarter with a 20-10 advantage. But this Chiefs team never gives up.

In the fourth quarter Kansas City scored 21 unanswered points, with two touchdowns from Damien Williams, to seal the win at the Hard Rock Stadium.

Mahomes, who was intercepted twice by the 49ers defence, ran in Kansas’s opening score in the first quarter and also threw two touchdowns for 286 yards.

After a 50-year wait it’s the Chiefs’s second Super Bowl win while for the five-time champions Niners they are without a victory for 25 years.

Lifting the Vince Lombardi Trophy, Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said: “It’s great. I love this guy [Patrick Mahomes] and all the guys that came before, I love you. This is what it’s all about, appreciate every moment.”
