A pigeon has been sold for the record fee of £1m. The retired racing bird, called Armando, was sold by auction house Pipa for 1,252,000 euros (£1.07 million) after a furious online bidding war lasting two weeks. The auctioneer said of the bird: “In football terms you have Messi and Ronaldo - it's that level.”
