A British woman who was unaware she was pregnant gave birth to a baby girl at her boyfriend’s apartment in Amsterdam. Charlotte Wheeler-Smith had just taken part in a seven-kilometre run through the city when she went into labour. Earlier in the day she had consulted with a doctor because of stomach problems but was told it was probably just flatulence or irritable bowel syndrome.

Private island sells to buyer who hadn't even visited

A private island off the coast of Ireland with three beaches, seven houses and natural wildlife has sold for more than $6.3 million to a buyer who had not even visited the location in person before going through with the purchase. Estate agent Knight Frank said this “highlights a trend that is becoming more apparent as the impact of Covid-19 is felt and people look to purchase property or land in remote locations”.

Swarm of flying ants over UK is spotted from space 

A 50-mile-wide cloud of flying ants, so large it has been spotted in space, has been making its way over the UK. The vast swarm was picked up by the Met Office's weather radar over Kent and Sussex, on the southeast coast. A spokesperson for the Met Office said there were likely to be “thousands” of ants within the swarm.
