Dorothy’s stolen ruby slippers recovered after 13 years

An iconic pair of ruby slippers worn by Judy Garland in the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz has been found, 13 years after they were stolen from a small museum in Grand Rapids, Minnesota.

The slippers, one of four pairs used in the film, were recovered in an FBI sting operation and have been authenticated by staff at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History.

A man has been arrested after he was allegedly seen sexually assaulting an injured beaver in a Washington park. Witnesses say the man was seen on top of the animal with his pants unzipped, before police were called. Officials say the man has been charged with animal cruelty and possession of methamphetamine.

Saudi Arabia outlaws online satire

Officials in Saudi Arabia have announced new measures that outlaw online satire which “disrupts public order”, according to the country’s public prosecutor. The penalty for "producing and distributing content that ridicules, mocks, provokes and disrupts public order” is up to five years in prison and a fine of up to three million riyals (£620,000).
