Princess Diana’s five lovers revealed

Diana and James Hewitt

What links a former England rugby captain, an art dealer, a dashing cavalry officer, a PR man and a bodyguard? According to evidence given at the inquest into Princess Diana's death yesterday, they were all lovers of the late princess. James Hewitt (above, with Diana) and Will Carling, the Guards officer and the rugby player, are the best known names, although Carling has always maintained he had just had a friendship with the princess.

The PR exec, James Gilbey, was the man who coined the phrase 'Squidgy' and who was taped talking to the princess on a mobile phone, giving rise to the 'Squidgygate' scandal.
