Liverpool transfer news: Mbappe, Fernandes, Fekir, van den Berg

Kylian Mbappe mania hits Anfield after Daniel Sturridge’s Instagram picture

Mbappe mania

Could Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe be coming to Liverpool? That’s the dream of the Kop after former striker Daniel Sturridge posted a picture on his Instagram account alongside the Frenchman.

The photo sent Liverpool fans into “meltdown”, reports the Daily Express, and increased speculation that the Reds could be trying to entice the 20-year-old ace to Merseyside.

In recent weeks the World Cup winner has been linked to both Barcelona and Real Madrid, but this is now the second time that he has “dropped a hint” that he could be heading to the Premier League.

Recently, while appearing on an ESPN show, Mbappe chose Liverpool when challenged to a match on the Fifa video game, conclusive proof in the world of Transfer Talk that he’s eyeing a move to Anfield.

Meanwhile, Sturridge, who was released by Liverpool at the end of the season, has been recently linked with Glasgow clubs Celtic and Rangers.

Fernandes fight

Manchester United have been “rocked”, the Express claims, and Liverpool are responsible.

According to the paper, the Old Trafford outfit have had their hearts set on Bruno Fernandes for months but their hopes of landing the Portugal international have “been dealt a blow” with Liverpool tabling a bid for the Sporting Lisbon star.

The Express says that United are “keen” to make Fernandes their third signing of the summer after Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, but Jurgen Klopp has other ideas.

The Anfield gaffer has “made an approach” for the midfielder and is determined to beat his rivals to the prize.

However, according to Portuguese newspaper Journal de Notices, there could be a twist to the saga with Tottenham also loitering with intent.

Spurs are allegedly ready to meet Sporting’s asking price of £62m, which for the moment Liverpool are reluctant to do.

Fekir talks

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, which quotes French sources, Liverpool are once more on the tail of Lyon attacking midfielder Nabil Fekir.

The 25-year-old was linked to the Reds 12 months ago, and although nothing came of the speculation, Liverpool and AC Milan are said to be circling Fekir once more.

Asked about the rumours, Lyon president Jean Michel Aulas replied: “We are talking with other clubs but I won’t reveal the details.

“We are speaking with people who are not in a hurry to close the deal because they want to do things properly. We don’t need the money and if we don’t receive the right offer we can retain him.”

It’s believed Lyon would consider an offer in the region of £55m.

Van den Berg bagged

One player who is definitely now a Red is 17-year-old Dutch defender Sepp van den Berg.

Liverpool’s official website confirmed the move on Thursday, explaining that the Netherlands under-19 international has left PEC Zwolle to sign “a long-term contract” at Anfield.

Highly regarded in his homeland, van den Berg said of his move: “It is, for me, the biggest club in the world and it’s a dream come true. I’m really excited.”
