Premier League transfer gossip and rumours

It’s the summer transfer deadline day in the Premier League and the EFL Championship. So ahead of the 5pm deadline we look at which players could be swapping clubs.

We also round-up some of the deals that could see top-flight players move to clubs in leagues where the transfer window remains open.

Lukaku signs for Inter

Inter Milan have announced the signing of Romelu Lukaku from Manchester United. The Belgian striker has left Old Trafford after a two-year spell, in which he scored 28 goals in 66 appearances.

Sky Sports reports that the 26-year-old has signed a five-year deal with the Italian club and his transfer fee is understood to be around £73m.

In a video posted by Inter on Twitter Lukaku said: “Inter, it’s not for everyone. That’s why I’m here.”

Mandzukic to replace Lukaku?

Sky in Italy reports that Manchester United are back in talks with Juventus over a deal for Croatian forward Mario Mandzukic. With Romelu Lukaku on his way to Inter, United are on the search for a new front man and see the 33-year-old Mandzukic as an ideal replacement.

Arsenal set to sign Tierney

Kieran Tierney will arrive at the Emirates today to “discuss terms and have a medical” at Arsenal. The Sun reports that Arsenal and Celtic have finally agreed a £25m deal and the 22-year-old defender is set to sign for the Gunners before today’s 5pm deadline.

Speaking after Celtic’s Champions League fixture on Wednesday night, Bhoys’ boss Neil Lennon told the BBC: “If he goes, he goes with everyone’s best wishes. He’s an outstanding talent and a great kid.”

Spurs interest in Coutinho ends

A day after rumours emerged linking Tottenham to Barcelona playmaker Philippe Coutinho, talkSPORT reports that the north London outfit have ended their interest in the 27-year-old Brazilian.

The former Liverpool favourite had been tipped with a loan move to Spurs but according to the radio station Coutinho “is desperate to be playing for Barcelona next season as he wants to fight for his place in the first-team”.

Lo Celso and Sessegnon to Tottenham?

Philippe Coutinho may not be coming to Spurs but Giovani Lo Celso is, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster says that Tottenham “have agreed an initial £55m fee with Real Betis”, and the midfielder will be unveiled today as a Lilywhite once he’s had his medical.

Sky Sports predicts it will be a busy day for Spurs as they look to finalise a deal for Fulham left-back Ryan Sessegnon. Sky says that Spurs have agreed a fee for 19-year-old Sessegnon.

Dybala deal off

Tottenham have missed out on signing Paulo Dybala from Juventus. The BBC reports that the Italian champions have decided against selling the 25-year-old Argentine forward.

City in for keeper Carson

Manchester City are set to make “a stunning move” for former England goalkeeper Scott Carson. The Sun says that Pep Guardiola believes the veteran gloveman, currently at Derby County, is a reliable back-up to Ederson and Claudio Bravo and the 33-year-old will arrive at the Etihad on a season’s loan.

Welbeck’s a Hornet

Watford have unveiled the signing of Danny Welbeck just weeks after the England striker left Arsenal. The Hornets’ official website stated that the 28-year-old “has agreed a permanent contract… and further bolsters Javi Gracia’s squad”. Welbeck left the Gunners in June after five largely unsuccessful years at the Emirates on account of a succession of injuries.

Luiz to leave Chelsea for Arsenal?

The Sun calls it an “exit bombshell” while The Times goes for a more restrained “dramatic move”. But whatever one’s take on the news that Chelsea defender David Luiz is on the brink of signing for Arsenal it’s a late development few expected. BBC reports that Chelsea and Arsenal have agreed a fee of £8m for the Brazilian.

Zaha hands in transfer request

Wilfried Zaha has rocked Crystal Palace by handing in a transfer request. Ivory Coast forward Zaha is wanted by Everton, who have seen bids rejected during the summer window. The Guardian says Palace will not accept less than £100m for their prized asset.
