Man Utd transfer news: Ashley Young to join Inter, Bruno Fernandes deal close

Veteran gets his wish after demanding to leave Old Trafford, Sporting star set to join

Ashley Young’s anger helped seal Inter move

Ashley Young will fly to Italy today for a medical that is expected to seal his move from Manchester United to Inter Milan. According to Sky Sports, the two clubs have finally thrashed out a deal after weeks of fraught negotiations.

The 34-year-old Young has made no secret of his wish to move to Inter but earlier in the month it was reported that United intended to force him to see out the final six months of his contract.

But Sky Sports says that Young has now got his wish in a deal that will net the English club “£1.3m (€1.5m) plus bonuses”.

Storm force

The Sun alleges that the tensions that had been simmering for weeks finally boiled over last Friday at United’s training ground when Young “stormed” off in disgust after arguing with gaffer Ole Gunnar Solskjaer over his future.

As a result, says the paper, Young “was axed from last Saturday’s squad for the 4-0 win over Norwich and then also left out of Wednesday’s FA Cup victory over Wolves”. The fracas convinced United that they had to accede to Young’s wish and allow him to leave in this month’s transfer window.

Determined to go

The former England international even turned down a new one-year contract from United such was his determination to quit Old Trafford, a club he joined from Aston Villa in the summer of 2011.

Apparently Young has been given assurances from Inter boss Antonio Conte that he will be a regular in his starting XI, whereas under Solskjaer he has only started 10 league games this season.

Sporting chance

Meanwhile the Daily Mirror reports that United are now locked in tense negotiations with Sporting Lisbon over Bruno Fernandes. The Red Devils have agreed personal terms with the midfielder but apparently the Portuguese outfit are “haggling” over the transfer fee.

The Mirror says that United are “ready to offer £50m...that is set to rise to £65m with add-ons”, but that Sporting are holding out for £55m up front. However, the transfer is expected to go through in the coming days and the Mirror predicts that Fernandes will be seen in a Sporting shirt for the final time this evening against Benfica.
