Premier League manager news: Chelsea prepare for Conte and staff ‘cull’

Sam Allardyce to get Everton axe while David Moyes is expected to leave West Ham

Antonio Conte’s future at Chelsea looks bleak with news that the club are preparing to “cull” the Italian and his “army” of backroom staff.

Despite leading the Blues to this weekend’s FA Cup final, and last season's Premier League title, Conte has failed to ensure Champions League football for the west London club next term.

The Daily Mail says Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri is a leading candidate to replace Conte at Stamford Bridge, as is Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino.

If the Blues are to give Conte the boot, they will also have to clear out his backroom staff as well. According to the Mail Chelsea will have a “complicated” task of removing and replacing Conte and his “army” of eight Italian staff.

The cost of reshaping the coaching set-up will be further hit by the club’s failure to get into next season’s Champions League. The Mail says Chelsea’s revenue will be down by “at least £50m”.

Arsenal staff ‘given the boot’

Following Arsene Wenger’s departure after 22 seasons at the club, Arsenal are preparing for a “new era” says the Daily Mail

The Gunners have begun their “most significant cull of backroom staff for more than two decades” with six long-serving coaches and medical staff set to leave the Emirates.

The Mail says that Arsenal’s head of medical, Colin Lewin, is the “biggest casualty”. Lewin has been with the club for 23 years.

Big Sam to be axed by Everton

Sam Allardyce is expected to depart from Everton this week, The Times reports, just six months after taking over as manager at Goodison Park.

Everton’s board will meet to discuss Allardyce’s future after the former England boss became “a target for supporters’ displeasure” following an underwhelming season that has “left the club divided”.

The Guardian says that Everton are targeting Marco Silva as Allardyce’s replacement. Silva is the front-runner for the Goodison job and was the club’s “preferred candidate” in October.

However, any move for Silva could be complicated by a legal dispute between the Portuguese coach and his former club Watford.

Moyes ‘unlikely’ to stay at West Ham

According to Sky Sports sources David Moyes’ short reign as West Ham manager will soon come to an end.

The Scot was appointed as Hammers boss in November and signed a contract until the end of the Premier League season. The deal expired on Sunday after the 3-1 win against Everton.

After Moyes held talks with the London club Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol says it’s “touch and go whether he stays at West Ham”.

Newcastle’s Rafael Benitez and former Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini are on a shortlist to take over at West Ham and Sky says that 30 to 40 managers “have expressed an interest in the job”.

The Guardian adds that Shakhtar Donetsk’s Paulo Fonseca and former Paris Saint-Germain manager Unai Emery have also been linked with West Ham.

Benfica target former United No.2 Faria

After announcing at the weekend that he was leaving his role as Jose Mourinho’s assistant at Manchester United, Rui Faria could be set for a quick return to football.

Faria, who has worked with Mourinho for 17 years, is expected to be offered his first manager’s job at Benfica in Portugal, The Daily Telegraph reports.
