Arsenal transfer news: Denis Suarez, Idrissa Gueye, Yannick Carrasco, Christopher Nkunku
Gunners close in on Suarez deal and battle rages for Everton star Gueye
Arsenal head coach Unai Emery has hinted that a deal to sign Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez is in the offing.
The Daily Mirror reports that following his side’s unconvincing 2-1 win over Cardiff City last night, the Gunners gaffer admitted: “We need wingers. Suarez, who I know, he has these qualities.”
However, the Spaniard - who could also do with a defender or two - clammed up when pressed for details, simply saying: “If a player can come here to help us, he will come. My focus has been on the [Cardiff] match and I haven’t spoken to anyone.”
Gueye to be a Gunner?
According to The Sun, Arsenal are also loitering with intent around Everton star Idrissa Gueye - although they’re not the only interested club.
Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City are said to be stalking the 29-year-old midfielder as well, and the Toffees have reportedly knocked back an offer of £25m from the French champions already.
The newspaper says that Emery is “desperate for further reinforcements” and will look to arrange a loan deal with Everton before tomorrow’s transfer window closes.
Carrasco is plan B
Metro is reporting that the Gunners “have abandoned” their pursuit of Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic and instead are zeroing in on Yannick Carrasco.
Inter refused to consider a loan move for the Croatian without an obligation to purchase in June, so Arsenal are now looking to table an offer to Chinese side Dalian Yifang for Carrasco, the newspaper says.
Bleak outlook
Meanwhile, Arsenal’s chances of landing PSG midfielder Christopher Nkunku appear gloomy, says the Daily Mirror.
Asked on French TV about the possibility of Nkunku moving to the Emirates, the player’s agent, Jose Pierre Fanfan, replied: “There is a real interest from Arsenal for Nkunku, but the discussions are quite complicated.
“There are restrictions from Arsenal’s side. They cannot do a transfer in the middle of the season. It is still being discussed with PSG, things could still happen in the next 48 hours, but as I said, the fact that I am here means that it does not look good.”
