Booster jabs and rising Covid infections have dominated the headlines this week, with Sajid Javid warning that vaccination rates must improve to help fend off a difficult winter.

The health secretary was in a serious mood on Wednesday when he said that new Covid cases could soon reach “100,000 a day” and that there could be “a lot more flu around” in the coming months.

Warning that restrictions could be reintroduced if the situation “became more challenging”, he added that “we must get the jab when the time comes, for Covid or flu”.
