Skoda goes electric with Vision E concept

Company's first EV, which can 'go into autopilot' and 'park on its own', to be unveiled at Shanghai Motor Show

Skoda has released a teaser image of its Vision E electric SUV concept following rumours that it is set to announce its first electric vehicle at the Shanghai Motor Show next month.

The Czech carmaker says the Vision E will boast a battery range of around 310 miles and meets the requirements for level 3 autonomy, meaning it can initiate an array of safety features without driver intervention.

According to AutoExpress, the Vision E can "operate independently in jams, go into autopilot on the motorway, park on its own and search for car park spaces".

It sits on the same platform as Volkswagen's ID concept, says Autocar, and is expected to spawn four all-electric Skoda models by 2025.

While the company has yet to confirm the storage capacity of the battery, the "production version will use a newly developed lithium ion battery pack, packaged into the floorpan", the magazine says.

Car reports the battery is connected to two electric motors, which produce a combined power output of 301bhp and launches the SUV to a top speed of 112mph.

Earlier this week, Autocar posted a leaked image from Skoda suggesting three new models could appear at next month's Shanghai Motor Show: a "Kodiaq Coupe" and two vehicles codenamed "Model K" and "Model Q".

While Skoda has confirmed it will bring the Vision E concept to the show, which runs from 21 to 28 April, it has yet to reveal any details about the cars in the leaked image.
