Porsche Boxster T and Cayman T 2019: prices, specs and UK release
The new cars have weight-saving features and six-speed manual gearboxes as standard
The weather may be far from ideal for driving a sports car but this hasn’t stopped Porsche from launching its new 718-generation Cayman T coupe and Boxster T roadster.
The “T” in the name stands for “Touring”, a term the German carmaker uses to describe its sports cars with “dynamic driving performance”, according to Autocar.
What this means is that the cars have a greater number of sporty options than their base-level counterparts. T models, for example, have a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, as well as several “performance-inspired tweaks” to the chassis, says the motoring magazine.
One of the most striking changes is to the cabin. Auto Express says the infotainment systems on both cars have been replaced with a storage compartment.
Scrapping the sat nav module has allowed Porsche’s engineers to save weight, thus improving the car’s handling. But buyers can have the system reinstalled at no additional fee, says the magazine.
In terms of performance, however, the Cayman T and Boxster T are identical to the cars they’re based on.
The 2.0-litre flat-four turbocharged engine in the new models has been carried over from the old cars, says Top Gear. Power output is 296bhp. This helps fire the car from 0-60mph in 4.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 171mph.
Prices for the Cayman T start at £51,145, while the Boxster T comes in a little higher at £53,006, says Auto Express.
Orders are now open and deliveries are set to get underway in the new year.
