Porsche has taken the wraps off an updated version of its Macan SUV featuring a host of hi-tech upgrades and with a choice of V6 engines.

The mid-size SUV is by far the most successful model in the German car giant’s range, outselling the company’s popular 911 sports car by three to one last year, says US-based car site Motor1.

Porsche is hoping the new Macan will prove even more popular. The revamped interior features an 11in touchscreen infotainment system, up from 7in in the outgoing model, that includes voice control and real-time traffic updates as standard.

The new model also comes with new semi-autonomous traffic jam assistance, says Auto Express. This feature controls functions such as acceleration, braking and steering automatically within a given lane at speeds of up to 37mph.

The reworked SUV integrates with Porsche’s Offroad Precision app, too, which allows drivers to “record and analyse” their off-road excursions through their smartphone, the magazine says.

Other changes can be found under the bonnet, with buyers offered a choice of two new V6 engines developed in conjunction with Audi, Autocar reports.

“Well-placed sources” told the car mag that the Macan S will get a 335bhp turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 motor, while the sportier GTS model is set to be powered by a 3.6-litre turbo V6 with 375bhp. The range-topping Macan Turbo, meanwhile, is expected to adopt a 2.9-litre turbo V6 that produces around 454bhp.

There are also subtle updates to the exterior design. CNet says the grille has been lightly tweaked to give the car a wider look, while LED headlights are now available as standard.

Porsche has yet to give an official release date or pricing details, but according to Evo, the new Macan is on course to hit the European market later this year.
