Audi SQ2 revealed: UK release date, prices and specs
Hot crossover gets 296bhp turbo engine and Quattro all-wheel drive
Audi has taken the wraps off its new SQ2, a sporty and more powerful version of its entry-level Q2 SUV.
Set to make its public debut at the Paris Motor Show, from 4 to 14 October, the SQ2 will go up against hot crossovers such as BMW’s new X2 M35i and the ageing Mercedes-AMG GLA 45.
The SQ2 looks fairly similar to the Q2 but some subtle styling tweaks set the two apart.
The sportier model gets a slightly more aggressive front bumper with an additional pair of air inlets under the brake cooling ducts. The SQ2 also features a rear wing, as well as a choice of 18in or 19in wheels.
A smattering of “S” badges, both in the interior and exterior, further distinguish the newcomer from the standard car.
More details about the car’s design and interior will emerge in Paris next week. In the meantime, here’s everything we know about the SQ2:
UK release date
Motoring blog PistonHeads says orders should open “before the year is out”, although buyers will have to wait until early 2019 for deliveries to kick off.
Pricing
Audi is expected to confirm the SQ2’s pricing at the Paris show.
Autocar predicts the car will cost from round £35,000 - £15,000 more than the standard model.
Engines and performance
The SQ2 may be the smallest SUV in the range but it certainly won’t be the slowest. The hot crossover is powered by the same 296bhp 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo engine as that in the Volkswagen Golf R super hatch, says Auto Express.
Audi’s new car also gets the all-wheel drive Quattro system, which helps launch the SUV from zero to 62mph in 4.8 seconds and on to a limited top speed of 155mph. A seven-speed automatic dual-clutch gearbox, sports suspension and larger brakes complete the package.
