BMW X7 SUV 2019 unveiled: UK release date, prices and specs

BMW has finally unveiled its largest and most luxurious SUV to date - the X7.

The flagship crossover appeared in concept form at last year’s Frankfurt Motor Show and will sit above the coupe-esque X6 and the rival Range Rover at the top of the luxury SUV market.

The German carmaker has packed the X7 with the latest interior tech, including all-new switchgear and a 12.3in infotainment system, reports Evo.

The luxurious interior can accommodate seven occupants, though buyers can spec the car in a six-seat configuration to create more space.

Price and release

The X7 will arrive in showrooms next April, with prices starting at £72,155, Auto Express reports.

This price tag puts it below the Range Rover Vogue and on par with the Mercedes-Benz GLS.

Design

Although most of BMW’s vehicles share similar design traits, the X7 has a notably more premium look than its siblings.

Arguably the new SUV’s standout feature is the grille, which is larger than the usual kidney-style vents that appear across the BMW range. Flanking the grille are ultra-thin LED headlights that merge seamlessly into the vents.

Moving further back, a metal strip runs from behind the front wheels and along the bottom edge of the car.

The rear of the X7, meanwhile, has a metal strip housed between the tail lights - a design that only appears on BMW’s range-toppers. This same design can be found in the 7 Series saloon, the most luxurious model in the car company’s four-door line-up.

Engines and performance

The X7 will be offered with four engines at launch, although only three variants will be available in the UK, according to Autocar.

The xDrive40i model is expected to be the most popular model, the magazine adds. The petrol model is powered by 3.0-litre straight-six turbo engine that produces 335bhp and offers a combined fuel economy of 24.7mpg.

BMW will also offer UK buyers a choice of two diesel units - a xDrive30d with 261bhp and a range-topping M50d version with a 394bhp quad-turbocharged straight-six engine.
