The Week Unwrapped podcast: German gender, Insta-unions and the Moon

Olly Mann and The Week delve behind the headlines and debate what really matters from the past seven days.

In this week’s episode, we discuss:

German gender

An argument has broken out in Germany after the country’s justice ministry drafted a bill using only the feminine version of words, such as ‘employee’ or ‘landlord’. Is this a step towards gender equality? Or a recipe for confusion, and something that will ultimately undermine the battle for women’s rights?

A new space race

The race for space is back on – this week, Britain and seven other nations signed up to US space agency Nasa’s Artemis Accords, which set out the principles governing America’s 2024 mission to the moon. But Russia and China were notable by their absence. Are we facing a lunar land grab?

Socialising media

A group of social media influencers are attempting to set up a trade union to protect independent creatives such as themselves from exploitation. The £15bn influence industry has grown dramatically in recent years, but performers - often young and inexperienced - have few rights.
