Top Gear Series 27: new trailer, presenters, tickets and release date

From souped-up hearses to track-honed supercars, here’s what to expect from the BBC motoring show’s next season

An action-packed trailer for the next series of Top Gear has just been revealed. The new trailer will give fans a sneak preview of what the BBC motoring show will look like following its new – and controversial – presenter line-up.

Friends star Matt LeBlanc and motoring journalist Rory Reid will no longer be part of the core presenting team that dominated the previous three series. Instead, former England cricket captain Andrew “Freddie” Flintoff and Take Me Out host Patrick “Paddy” McGuinness will be major players in the 27th series.

The two new presenters will join Chris Harris who returns for his fourth season on the show.

The latest trailer is the second time fans will see the three presenters together as the BBC released a small clip from the new season during the final episode of the 26th series.

Fans won’t have long to wait until the new series releases as the first episode is expected to air next month.

While you wait, here is everything we know about series 27 of Top Gear

Who are the new presenters?

The line-up for series 27 consists of Chris Harris, Freddie Flintoff and Paddy McGuinness.

Matt LeBlanc, who fronted the show after Jeremy Clarkson was sacked in 2015, announced in October that he would be stepping away from the show due to its “extensive travel” requirements, the Radio Times reports.

Reid will be dropped from the main line-up in order to front the spin-off show Extra Gear, a 30-minute online series that airs straight after each episode of Top Gear.

The decision has proved controversial with fans. Earlier this year, many expressed their lack of enthusiasm for the new presenter line-up on Twitter.

Although LeBlanc, Harris and Reid were also slated when they first joined the show four years ago, Top Gear fans had come to enjoy their antics.

What can we expect from series 27?

In most episodes of Top Gear, the presenters are given a series of challenges to complete. They are pretty bizarre in nature, with challenges that include presenters having to build their own cars, and we can expect more of this in the new series.

The trailer kicks off with McGuinness pulling up to a pub in a black Jaguar hearse. The hearse is later seen drifting on a beach in Wales with a new blue and black colour scheme.

The presenters are also filmed scaling cliffs in Iceland in special buggies, trudging through the jungle in Borneo and travelling in the mountains of Ethiopia, says the news site DigitalSpy

Meanwhile, Harris is seen putting a couple of track-focused “beasts” – the Ferrari 488 Pista and McLaren 600LT – through their paces on the Top Gear test track, says The Sun. Harris is also filmed behind the wheel of the Lotus 79, a car that won the Formula 1 world championship in 1978.

Release

The new series of Top Gear will air on BBC Two some time next month, according to The Sun.

As we don’t yet know the exact date and June is only a few days away, this is likely to be towards the end of the month.

Where can you buy tickets?

Given the next series of Top Gear is just weeks away, it shouldn’t be long before tickets for the show’s studio segments are made available.

Fans who want to be in the show’s audience can apply at the BBC Shows website.
